I owned a restaurant in Foley called Margarita’s serving authentic Mexican food. After HB 56 passed and was upheld by judge we lost most of our business and we had to close. But before that, we were popular with Hispanics and Anglos too. Our chicken with molé sauce got 4 stars on a food rating web site. I named the place after my wife, although lots of people thought it was named after Margarita the drink. She and my daughter daughter Elizabeth worked in the restaurant too, and we are proud of what we had built here. Now we feel unwelcome in our own home state. We are thinking of closing the restaurant and moving to Mississippi to open a market. We worked hard to be part of the community here, but now we feel invisible.
